We would like to thank all those who have given support to this project from the local community, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, the Forestry Commission, the Pond Conservation Trust, Alvecote and Shuttington Parish Council, Maurice Arnold, and all the contractors and friends, family and volunteers who have worked on the site and given us advice and support.

We are developing Alvecote Wood according to our Woodland Management Plan that has been agreed with and grant-aided by the Forestry Commission under the English Woodland Grant Scheme.

Are you another woodland owner needing advice?

Photographs of Alvecote Wood

These are some general photographs of Alvecote Wood. Other photographs of wildlife, and of the developments we have been making and are continuing to make are on separate pages. Sarah is a keen photographer and some of her photos from Alvecote Wood have been published in The Guardian and featured on BBC Autumnwatch.

We also have some albums on Facebook that can be seen by everybody - you don't have to be a member to see them. These links open in a new window.

Huge old oak tree Old entrance
Old concrete base Old entrance and building
Old concrete base - probably from building erected in 1920s Old road entrance and derelict barn building - we know this has been used as stables and as a dwelling for a pig keeper and also a shepherd
Pond 6 original configuration six foot high brambles
The lower pond at Alvecote Wood before we dredged it and restored it to its original size Six foot high brambles many yards deep - this is what we were faced with trying to get around the site.
Tall brambles choking saplings
Very tall brambles are completely choking oak saplings trying to grow.

Alvecote Wood - some of the things we've done
New building in autumn Path through brambles
We put in an access road and new steel building for storage We made some paths through the high brambles to gain access
Daffodils New lower ponds
A lot of daffodils were already here but we planted some more We have restored the old pond to its original boundaries (it had silted up) and divided it into three connecting ponds
New hedge Tree surgey in 2008
We have replaced the boundary fence at the roadside and planted a native species hedge We had tree surgery carried out to make roadside trees safe (this is Mike Daniels of Arborcare, up a tree!)
New internal path Land drain trench
We made new internal paths suitable for off road vehicles so we can get equipment into the woods We have installed some land drainage to reduce waterlogging and hopefully prevent more oak trees dying
