We would like to thank all those who have given support to this project from the local community, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, Forestry England, Grown in Britain, the Freshwater Habitats Trust, Alvecote and Shuttington Parish Council, Maurice Arnold (sadly now passed away), and all the contractors and friends, family and volunteers who have worked on the site and given us advice and support.

We are developing Alvecote Wood according to our Woodland Management Plan that has been agreed with and grant-aided by Forestry England under the English Woodland Grant Scheme.

Candle Safety

Alvecote woods - clearing and ponds

Please ensure that you burn your candles safely by following these simple tips:-

Never leave burning candles unattended, even for a moment.

Never burn candles within reach of children or pets.

Never burn candles on or near anything that can catch fire.

Always leave at least 10cm (4 inches) between burning candles.

Always extinguish the candle before it reaches the last 1/2 inch of un-melted wax to ensure that it does not burn through. Discard the stub once it reaches this size.

Please ensure that the candle is fully extinguished after use.

These are some additional tips to help you enjoy your beeswax and soya candles safely.

All candles have been tested to ensure that they are stable when free-standing. However they should be placed on a flat heat-proof surface and that they are in a position where it is not easy to knock them over.

These candles have been tested to ensure that the wick is matched to the candle size. However, because these are natural and hand-made products, they will all burn in a slightly different way. At some point these beeswax candles are likely to dribble some wax from the candle, so please ensure they are placed on a surface that will not be damaged by hot wax.

The wick has been trimmed to approximately 1/4 inch (0.5cm) before it is supplied to you, and at this length the candle should burn consistently with a good flame that is not too strong. However, from time to time the flame may become too strong. If this happens, please extinguish the candle, allow it to cool, then trim the wick back to 1/4 inch (0.5cm). If the flame becomes too weak due to wax pooling, you should extinguish the candle, and while the wax is still molten, carefully pour a little wax away onto a heat-proof surface. This will lengthen the wick in relation to the wax, and the candle can then be re-lit.

Our container candles have been designed to burn cleanly for many hours. However as the candle burns, the outside of the container may become hot, so please ensure it is placed on a heat-proof surface. The candle tin is made from aluminium - when you have finished with the candle, please recycle the tin.

All our candles have been tested to ensure that they extinguish quickly when blown or snuffed out. However you should always wait for at least half a minute after extinguishing the candle to ensure that it is fully out before leaving the candle unattended.
